A short overview of hospitals in Chiang Mai

Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital

Better known as as Suan Dok Hospital, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital is part of Chiang Mai University. It is a public government hospital which explains why it can be quite crowded. In the Sri Phat Medical Center patients with more severe issues are treated. Full service medical checkups are also performed here. The Emergency division at Sri Phat is probably the first place most people will go to for immediate treatment. The doctors over here are generally first class.


Chiang Mai Ram

Located not so far from Suan Dok Hospital, Chiang Mai Ram is the largest private hospital in town and is part of the Ramkhamhaeng Group of Hospitals. The hospital houses many world class doctors. Almost any medical service is offered; health check-ups, dermatology, cardiac, dental and obstetric care, fertility, knee and hip replacements, and cosmetic surgery. Compared to the West this is an all service hospital with private rooms at reasonable prices.


Lanna Hospital

Address: 1, Sukkasem Road, Chang Puak, Chiang Mai 50300 – Tel: 053 999 777

Lanna Hospital, located on the Super Highway, is a smaller hospital, but it is also affiliated with Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Medicine. Many excellent doctors practice here in far less crowded conditions than the main Suan Dok teaching hospital. The hospital has 24 full- and 11 part-time doctors specializing in a variety of areas, offering a range of services from health check-ups to both inpatient and outpatient care.


McCormick Hospital

Address: 133, Kaewnawarat Road, Thambon Watket, Ampur Muang, Chiang Mai 50000 – Tel: 053 921 777

This is a full service hospital, under the directorship of the Church of Christ; with many western trained doctors. They have pre- and postnatal care, cardiac care, dental services, radiology, neuro and general surgery, breast cancer check-ups, as well as full health care check-ups.
