You obviously like your time spent in the “rose of the north” and you like to stay a bit longer?
Here is one way to go about it:
Step 1: Book a flight from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani. Try for example Nok air or Bangkok air.
Step 2: Get out of the Udon Thani airport and straight in to a 200,- Baht minivan that will take you to the Thai-Lao border.
Step 3: Fill in the necessary forms and pay for your Lao entry, at the time of writing the cost for the border crossing is 1500,- Thai Baht or you can save some money and pay in US Dollars.
Step 4: Cross the Thai-Lao friendship bridge over the Mekong river and take a ride in to Vientiane to find a room.
Step 5: Wake up early in the morning and make your way to the Thai embassy where you can apply for a tourist visa with a maximum of two entry’s for a thousand Baht each.
Step 6: Get ready the next day to go back to the embassy in the afternoon where you can pick up your passport after 01:30 pm with hopefully your approved visa stamps.
Do make sure you carry all the proper documents and pictures keep on smiling and remember that you are depending on the officers in charge for your visa approval as a guest in their country!
